Q: What is sugaring?

Sugaring is an all-natural hair removal technique that has been around for centuries. The paste is made from sugar, water, and lemon juice and is applied to the skin in the direction of hair growth. The paste is then removed by flicking it off in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Q: How does sugaring work?

Sugaring works by adhering to the hair deep inside of the hair follicle, and that is because the molecule in the sugar is small enough to go penetrate your skin. This process also removes can ingrown hairs and prevents new ones from forming.

Q: Is sugaring better than waxing?

Sugaring is often referred to as a "gentler" alternative to waxing because it does not adhere to live skin cells. This means that there is less of a risk for irritation and inflammation. Waxing can be painful because the ingredients in the wax adheres to the skin, giving you an extreme and uncomfortable exfoliation. The sugar paste only adheres to the hair and not the skin, so it is much less painful than waxing.

Q: How long does sugaring last?

The results of sugaring can last up to six weeks. However, everyone's hair grows at different rates, so your mileage may vary. We recommend getting sugared every four to six weeks to maintain smooth, hair-free skin.

Q: Does sugaring help with ingrown hairs?

Sugaring can help avoid ingrown hairs because it is so efficient at removing the hair with root instead of breaking.

Q: How does sugaring compare to shaving?

Sugaring is often compared to shaving because it is a hair removal method. However, sugaring is a much more delicate process that does not damage the skin as shaving can. Sugaring also removes hair from the root, so it takes longer for hair to grow back.

Q: How much does sugaring cost?

The cost of sugaring varies depending on the size and area being treated. Sugaring is generally more affordable than waxing because with consistency the hair growth slows down and you do not have to come in as frequently as times goes on. for example you may start of sugaring every 4 weeks, but a few times the growth starts to slow and them you have to start coming every 6 weeks.

Q: How often should I get a sugaring treatment?

The frequency of sugaring treatments will depend on your individual hair growth pattern. Everybody's hair grows in stages, and there can be different growth rates in each hair shaft. Sugaring every 4 to 6 weeks may be sufficient for some people, while others may need to sugar less frequently.

Q: I have sensitive skin. Should I try sugaring?

Of course! Sugaring is suitable for sensitive skin because it allows for more secure hair removal without breaking. It also doesn't strip the skin of its natural oils as waxing does.

Q: What should I be mindful of before my sugaring appointment?

Before your appointment, you can prepare a few different ways, including:

  • Take a shower and make sure your skin is clean.

  • Exfoliate the night before, just not right before your appointment.

  • Make sure you are hydrated.

  • Avoid caffeine (helps with nerves)

  • Try to avoid coming in after work outs or coming in sweaty because the sugar will not work well if there is moisture on the skin

  • Come in with clean skin ( no lotions, creams, numbing cream or spray [unless removed well before coming in], deodorant). Any product on the skin will while sugaring will prevent the sugar from working unless cleaned off throughly.

Q: What should I avoid before my sugaring appointment?

It would help if you avoided the following:

  • Caffeine

  • Sun exposure

  • Alcohol

  • Products on skin

  • Working out

Q: What length should my hair be for sugaring?

Your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice for sugaring. No need for trimming before your appointment. I will trim if I need to.

Q: What are some aftercare tips for sugaring?

It is essential to avoid hot showers, working out, saunas, steam rooms, and sex for the first 24 hours after sugaring. Try to exfoliate weekly to help avoid ingrowns. Keep you skin clean everyday with some naturally antiseptic i.e. tea tree oil, alcohol free witch hazel, etc.
